RaVe

Well, to be very frank I never knew what this word meant before I came here…and thanks to the excitement due to the fact that 'OUR' cult fest was happening, I didn't even care to find out... They say, 'life is a lesson', I learnt it the better way, I guess. I was a part of the sponsorship team for getting the sponsorships from Noida. Everything was going well until I had an encounter with, let me call him Mr. Anonymous for now but you'll soon find out. I was with my friend and was rehearsing what I would be saying in the meeting most of us had been looking forward to…
Venue: Dehradun-Shatabdi Express
Date: I don’t exactly remember..
Here's the convo, as can roughly be sketched from memory:
Me: Greetings Sir
Friend: Yes, how may I help you?
Me: Sir actually we are from IIT Roorkee..
Then all of sudden we heard a voice—“ Which branch?”
[Startled by the sudden interruption, I gave this man who looked quite impressive by his attire a blank expression
I looked at my friend and we talked eye to eye-now who is this???]
Mr. Anonymous: Which branch are you in?
Me: Ahem..It’s Chemical Engineering with specialization in the field of Pulp and Paper.
Mr. A: Oh, so you are in the Department of Paper Technology in Saharanpur
Me: Ahem…Yes…
Mr. A: (smiles)So where are you heading to? I don’t think it’s holiday time now..
Me: Yes ,we are not having any holiday, we are going for some college work?
Mr. A: (smiles again..this time a bigger one) college work.. are you kidding?
Me: Actually, we’ll soon be having our cultural fest, ‘Rave’ and we are heading to Noida for meeting someone to discuss some points regarding its sponsorship.
Mr. A: Rave???
Me: (with attitude)ya..Rave
Mr. A: and what does ‘Rave’ mean ?
Me: (I must point out here that I was least bothered about the fact that I had not the slightest idea as to what this word meant, not because I didn't care, but like all my fellow mates, I too had gained expertise in the art of speaking continuously on anything I knew nothing about. So I started…) Rave means life, the various colors of life, it means the expression of joy, passion…
Mr. A: cut the crap..listen
Rave literally means a dance party often where loud music is played and people dance to the tune of the numbers.
Some cultural tenets associated with rave culture are:
Peace - to make peace with all people around them
Love - to stay close to all people and care for them unconditionally
Unity - to stand together for the universal cause of peace and love
Respect - to understand the diversities of culture
Responsibility - to educate oneself on the effects of drugs before ingesting them

and it’s because of this set of belief that ‘your’ fest got its name.

Me: (well don’t wonder what I said.. I had turned speechless)
{The conversation could not last any longer though coz Mr. A had to get down}
Me: Thank you so much Sir but how come..
Mr. A: (smiles) How can I forget my own fest?
and he left..leaving us smiling..

The Website

Hi ya folks. One thing leads to other and we have a complete picture in front of us. Sounds crap, I know its just that seeing the website reminds me of the days that go in making it. By the way its link is http://www.iitrave.com/ (if you already weren't coming from that link!!). You are hearing that website is going to be launched soon. You are not the developer types so you eagerly wait for it. The clock over you moves like in cartoons and your smile droops down slowly. Thoughts like- "What's up guys! I thought site was ready to roll." and "They don't know their job man." flash in your mind and when you are busy in stuff like this..

Whoa!!! It's their. Smiling at you, mocking you while you think-"Man they knew their job."
It's like those bombs in diwali-'green colored called atom bomb'- you lit them up wait patiently, hands over your ears and just when you take your hands off your ears in dismay you go deaf by their sound.

Great jobs guys!! Hail RAVE!!

New Year-New hopes-A New Rave

"It's gonna be legen--wait for it---DARY!!!!"

I couldn't help but let let this barney punchline rush through my head as the prospect of Rave being so close to being sanctioned appeared on the mess notice board. That was 08. Comes 09 and the campus is suddenly lit with a new kind of passion, the atmosphere electric, 100 watt flashbulbs gleaming in every smile...Rave was no more a dream...it was a possibility, with an official IIT-R seal confirming the news! It was now up to the DPT-ians to turn this possibility into a success that was so synonymous with the last Rave...

And, must say, am more than impressed seeing how things are going on in the campus. There's absolutely no news which could dampen the spirits of the guys out here working days in and days out to make this event memorable. Yeah, well, there are headaches for the organizers of certain events now and then, but hey, if u can't handle the aches, why be the head in the first place! (yeah, i know, chep!!). lol...

But seriously, in the last few weeks, the transformation that this campus has undergone is worth being referenced as a case study to a reputed humanitarian research paper. With a cult fest to roll out at the end of feb., a generally sleepy and chiiilled campus turned into a large hot cauldron brewing zeal, creativity and spirit in equal measures. The sudden outburst of professionalism and work ethics has impressed both the students and profs alike.

This year promises to be an xtra fun, xtra creative and xtra phokiab serving of enjoyment and masti. The dream of a succesful following in future and  the ambition of making this cult fest a bigger success than last time's both are driving the DPT-ians with all intensity towards making this one of the greatest successess this campus has ever seen.

Come Rave 09 and the madness shall storm the participants with a greater furor....

...for us at the Rave team however, the euphoria has already begun B-)

What ya waitin' for??
SUIT UP!!

Feel the Rave.

Stage was set and curtains undrawn

T’was time to flaunt intellect with brown

Time stood still for the fest unprecedented

Held its breath to waitness, event presented

Hasya Kavi’s locution pervaded satire

and Mode showcased majestic attire

Shivoo redefined the concept of dancing

While pro-nite caught celebrities prancing

As the event celebrations switched gears

Fun invaded the fragnant air

Overhauling this joy—ridden wave,

Was the cultural fest hailed as ‘Rave’.

A true picture of the Rave ‘07 from Himanshu Sir (3rd year).

Euphoria grips all.

Euphoria is something that is slow to start and difficult to curb. It is like a fire that builds from a twig but engulfs the whole forest. The whole campus is now covered in a mist which make us wake up at night, organise meetings at odd hours and making plans and again re-making them at night.

It’s fun all around and this fun is really contagious. The event organizers are running their minds like race course horses to make this event what has been never before. Anyways, I’ll update you guys for anything new that happens. Bye.

A few new changes.

The timings of our event has been postponed to new dates. Originally our Rave was on 20, 21  and 22 of Feb. but now it is being organised on 27, 28 feb. and 1 mar. You might be wondering WHY?

Well, it has been done to buy more time. Don’t you think that it is better to do something better than quicker. Raw-cooked food never tastes good but our Rave is gonna change your taste for life.

A glimpse to the city Saharanpur

Hello all the fellows..Its bit time you might be wondering as to how to reach this place and what this city as such has got in store for you...So, I'm gonna brief you a little on its history and how to reach here.
Well guys, Saharanpur is a famous industrial town of Western Uttar Pradesh. The city is situated 120 odd Kilometers from Delhi and is considered a major commercial transit point between Uttrakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The city is also renowned for Dar-ul-Uloom University.

Saharanpur has a long history to boast off. Excavations have reveled settlements as old as 2000 BC in this area. The place also features prominently during the Aryan civilization. Delhi Sultanate annexed the city in the medieval period. It was during this period that a Sufi saint by the name Shah Huron made the city his home. The city god its name from this saint only. It was then called Shah Huron Pur. The city also figures promptly during the 1857 rebellion. Some nationalist Muslim leaders who later went on to establish Dar-ul-Uloom University carried the mutiny in the city.

The city is famous for Dar-ul-Uloom University of Deoband. This university has the reputation of producing hundreds of Muslim theologians and jurists all over the world. Maulana Nanautvi and Maulana Rashid Ahmad Gangohi was the founder of this University that was established in the year 1867. The founders wanted to raise religious and social consciousness through peaceful methods. The Deoband Madarsa made efforts to awaken the Muslims and bring about a feeling of nationalism and unity. The school went on to play an important role in the revolutionary activities aimed at turning out the British from India.

Saharanpur is famous for wooden furniture. The city boasts off various furniture shops that sell high quality furniture that are exported in India and abroad. The city is also home to the world famous Basmati Rise. Do buy a few packets.

Rave '09

Let us tell you something about what is going to happen. We have seen the future and it is full of enthusiasm, vigor and life. RAVE'07 was a milestone in the history of Saharanpur campus. RAVE'09 will be a milestone in history of youth festivals. We want that next time when the young brigade like us visit any festival like this, they have a benchmark to test them against and we believe that RAVE'09 will give the others to match something.

RAVE will be full of hustle and bustle, not giving anyone a second to think about boredom. How? Well if you knew about what we have for you this question would never have arose in your mind. But it is not something to talk about. What we should talk about is what is in store for you. We are gonna dazzle you with Jhoom-the professional night, make your belly burst with Thitholi-the hasya kavi sammelan. The body-shakers can have all the fun and competition in Raazmataaz-the choreo competition. Aspiring models and budding designers can show their talent in Furor-the fashion parade and singers can make the crowd go crazy as Euphony is their. Like to dramatize a lot, good with expressions come show our judges and let the world see your talent in Expressions.

Got bored with all the events going on. We understand; sometimes we do not want large events happening around us. All we want is something small and delightful instead of great and phenomenal. That is why among these many suns are the stars which will give you that little fun that our heart demands sometimes. The Informals, as we call them will give you that your in space of fun amidst all the grandeur going on.

Phew! So much to tell and so much to share. Only half way and that too with just names. Let us take a breather while you get engross in the event of your choice. Many more events are their to tell you about. And next post will be very soon...
