EXPRESSIONS

The name ‘Shakespeare’ definitely rings a bell in the head. The ‘god’ of English drama, he has major contribution in making dramatics as glorious as it is.

Presently, it is a major event in any cultural fest. No different is ours. The responsibility of organizing EXPRESSIONS-our dramatics event, was entrusted to the three of us(may be coz we are biggest “nautankis” of our batch!!!).

As any normal team even we distributed various tasks among ourselves like participation, budget, managing our play etc. But, being true IITians(waiting for the 11th hour) in the end all three of us had to chip in our bit in everything to keep things going. We started off with participation calling our old school friends in different colleges for participation(it was nice talking to school pals after 3 yrs, and hope we now continue to be in contact)

Then we three concentrated on the budget. Being considered good at math (remember we are JEE cleared!!!!!!) that shouldn’t have been a problem. Ya adding up numbers was never a problem, problem was what all to include!! But, being ‘jugadoo’ and having the true roadie spirit we successfully accomplished that task!!

Between all the organizing stuff and urging others to participate, one day a junior, good at acting, asked, whether we will take him in our play. Then it occurred

Oh Gosh!!... even we have to participate in our cultural fest…!!!!!!!!!

Finally, after much brainstorming and arguments the strongest…. I mean, the best amongst us won. This is how script for our play has been finalized!!

Acting is not a big problem with students when in real life -  you have short attendance- you act to make your professor believe that you were sick or something, you haven’t submitted the tutorial sheet- you will act, you are late for the class- you will act. But this is till you know that no body will rate your performance. Professor knows the truth but he will have to allow you to save his time and others as well (who don’t mind time being wasted).

As soon as it comes to performing on stage, students put up a great performance just to convince you that they can’t act. Their reasons are stage fear or here, in our case, reluctance to get up from their beds and give auditions!!!!!!!!!

In auditions we were introduced to hidden talents of our campus. We actually have a wide variety ranging from “gabbar” and “mogambo” to “jai-veeru” and”basanti”!!

As the things were going smoothly here comes the speed-breaker!! Our MID TERM EXAMS.

But, right now this is a very feeble excuse to dampen our spirits. The only thought right now is “ to hell with mid terms” and “ hail RAVE!!!”

These just in!!!

After roping in Sanitarium 4 a rock performance, the team has now succeeded in bringing ForceIndia to an already gem studded sponsors list. The speedo-guys would come here and hold a contest wherein participants would perform a 20 sec or less pit stop tyre change. Also speculated that they will bring a real f1 car to the event!!
If the news of the f1 car doesn't rouse you, how about this...

SOFT MEMORIES OF RAVE

Last night while walking down the DPT carpet, my eyes got stuck to the RAVE’s notice board where it was written in big block letters, RAVE’09- THE MADNESS RETURNS, sequel to RAVE’07-Welcome To Madness. But what really glued my eyes to was the caption “THE MADNESS RETURNS”. Madness RETURNS....As the words “Madness Returns” rang in my head several times, soft memories of rave embedded deep down in my heart ‘came alive and started flashing in my mind. The memories took me way back to the days when i was a part of rave and how our team worked hard for it. Nobody cared whether it was day/night or hot/cold. Our Team left no stone unturned to make it successful and also a tradition that RAVE happens every year, and year after year it becomes much bigger and better.
In order to get the 1st and 2nd yr acquainted with how exuberant the last rave was, i decided to write a blog. Those three days(23rd-25th Feb,2007) were the most happening and the most memorable days in the history of our department. A step taken by a mere 8 students of 2nd year to organise a Cultural fest of the SRE campus, and tat too for the first time, was later on joined in by another 200 students one by one as we moved through the course of RAVE’07.The most awaited day of our lives arrived soon. The stage was set, and on the first RAVE night, the “Hasya kavi sammelan”, first big event of the fest was organised. Being the organiser of the same event i suffered from Prenatal Depression the whole day. This was but natural, as Not only did i want the event to be successful but also being a Core-Team member of rave, I wanted the event to lay a strong foundation for the upcoming events of the next 2 days. So a team of Kavi’s was knitted meticulously to Bring The House Down. With a few hiccups just before the start of the event, it ended with the audience gasping for air while laughing and holding their bellies to laugh more.

Later that night, Dr. Vivek Kumar caught me for not calling Dr. M.C. Bansal on the stage at the end of the event, which i had forgotten completely. Before he cud say sthg more, Dr. Dharam Dutt, in his characteristic style saidArrey ab toh tu Ser(Sher) ban ke rrreh campus mein. Kisi se darne ki zarrroorrat nahin hai. Bhai Bahut hi badiya karrraya tumne event!!”. I knew Vivek sir just wanted to tease me with some bantering and he gave his part of wishes by coming up to me in the morning the very next day saying ”Prateek you did a good Job. The event was a gr8 success. Every teacher is talkin about it and giving their wishes to all of u.”Those words of his really made me reach for some air, take a deep breath and say Thank you, Sir. Thanks a lot”. The next day wat i saw was the real rave party. Not in the actual sense of course!! We had a good outside participation infact it was comparable to that of Thomso, that very yr. The participation team did their job pretty well, and now the responsibility was on the shoulders of the organisers of several events to keep them entertained and make their arrival for RAVE worth. Now let me try and make you visualize the actual seen of the 2nd day. It was a clear and sunny day and the smell of the diminutively dusty winds felt like HEAVEN’s PERFUME. As soon as anyone entered the college he cud see a number of events going on in almost every part of the college. Students wud be running in one direction or the other, inorder to participate in the exciting events going on like mini soccer-where not only boys but also girls had fun kicking balls, Ouch ;), Mr and Miss rave, Blind date- where no girl left an opportunity to get hold of a guy to be a part of the game and vice versa and a couple of more events. You cud see bunches of students Twisting & shouting and motivating the participants, girls and boys swaying and gyrating their bodies to the music and Anchors making hilarious jokes and enthralling the spectators with their spectacular oratory. I must pay thanks to our junior batch on behalf of the team RAVE’07 to play such an important role in the event and making everybody’s hard work all through rave a meaning by organising such wonderful informals under the guidance of Yogesh(alumni,batch-2008).

As the students from various colleges were having fun and enjoying every moment of the day, we on the other hand were gearing up for the next big and the most sensational event-The Fashion Parade. As the erogenous models started walking on the ramp....
To be contd in the next one.

Hysteria n Paranoia.....

So close, no matter how far
Couldn't be much more from the heart
Forever trusting who we are
And nothing else matters
Never opened myself this way
Life is ours, we live it our way
All this words I dont just say
And nothing else matters
Trust i seek and i find in you
Everyday for us something new
Open mind for a different view
And nothing else matters
Never cared for what they do
Never cared for what they know
But i know..........
- Metallica

Heard this song for the very first time and i was hooked. Enter the world of Rock Music.... Meaningful lyrics coupled with superb music. It's enough to get anyone addicted......
It is said that rock music mainly seek out the darker side of human nature. But for me, i feel it portrays all human emotions in pure raw form.... Might be this is what lends rock music its intensity....
BUT...... there's something even better than rock music..... How's that possible???
Well you guessed it...... LIVE PERFORMANCES....!!!!
Nothing can beat a live performance...... can it? The FEEL that it gives is indescribable. The heart-thumping ear-shattering music not to forget the head-banging and the-screaming-till-your-lungs-hurt, as the performers and audience alike go wild under the spell of a single rythm. And yet, the music seem to seek out each person individually. Man i got no words...... \m/
And here's the scoop.... Our very own 'Rave '09 .... the madness returns' is bringing in the real madness...... Two mega Rock events..... "HYSTERIA..." and "PARANOIA....."!!!!!

HYSTERIA is the rock band competition. Feel the heady cocktail of rock music and adrenalin pumping through your veins as the bands battle it out. The crowds are sure gonna go wild over this one..... It promises to be an electrifying experience..... Come be a part of it....

PARANOIA is the rock nite, bringing in the performance of THE 'Sanitarium' one of the leading rock bands of India, coming from the North-East. Get ready to lose yourself as they redefine rock music. It doesnt get better than this.....
Aptly named HYSTERIA and PARANOIA aint it? Two intense human emotion..... And this is what they promise to stir up in you... Intense emotions enough to drive you wild....

HYSTERIA and PARANOIA here i come.... Head banging anyone??

RaVe

Well, to be very frank I never knew what this word meant before I came here…and thanks to the excitement due to the fact that 'OUR' cult fest was happening, I didn't even care to find out... They say, 'life is a lesson', I learnt it the better way, I guess. I was a part of the sponsorship team for getting the sponsorships from Noida. Everything was going well until I had an encounter with, let me call him Mr. Anonymous for now but you'll soon find out. I was with my friend and was rehearsing what I would be saying in the meeting most of us had been looking forward to…
Venue: Dehradun-Shatabdi Express
Date: I don’t exactly remember..
Here's the convo, as can roughly be sketched from memory:
Me: Greetings Sir
Friend: Yes, how may I help you?
Me: Sir actually we are from IIT Roorkee..
Then all of sudden we heard a voice—“ Which branch?”
[Startled by the sudden interruption, I gave this man who looked quite impressive by his attire a blank expression
I looked at my friend and we talked eye to eye-now who is this???]
Mr. Anonymous: Which branch are you in?
Me: Ahem..It’s Chemical Engineering with specialization in the field of Pulp and Paper.
Mr. A: Oh, so you are in the Department of Paper Technology in Saharanpur
Me: Ahem…Yes…
Mr. A: (smiles)So where are you heading to? I don’t think it’s holiday time now..
Me: Yes ,we are not having any holiday, we are going for some college work?
Mr. A: (smiles again..this time a bigger one) college work.. are you kidding?
Me: Actually, we’ll soon be having our cultural fest, ‘Rave’ and we are heading to Noida for meeting someone to discuss some points regarding its sponsorship.
Mr. A: Rave???
Me: (with attitude)ya..Rave
Mr. A: and what does ‘Rave’ mean ?
Me: (I must point out here that I was least bothered about the fact that I had not the slightest idea as to what this word meant, not because I didn't care, but like all my fellow mates, I too had gained expertise in the art of speaking continuously on anything I knew nothing about. So I started…) Rave means life, the various colors of life, it means the expression of joy, passion…
Mr. A: cut the crap..listen
Rave literally means a dance party often where loud music is played and people dance to the tune of the numbers.
Some cultural tenets associated with rave culture are:
Peace - to make peace with all people around them
Love - to stay close to all people and care for them unconditionally
Unity - to stand together for the universal cause of peace and love
Respect - to understand the diversities of culture
Responsibility - to educate oneself on the effects of drugs before ingesting them

and it’s because of this set of belief that ‘your’ fest got its name.

Me: (well don’t wonder what I said.. I had turned speechless)
{The conversation could not last any longer though coz Mr. A had to get down}
Me: Thank you so much Sir but how come..
Mr. A: (smiles) How can I forget my own fest?
and he left..leaving us smiling..
